The School Educator is primarily responsible for educational programming for intellectually disabled adults (ages 23-80+) in the areas of functional academics, vocational training, money management and leisure skills. In addition to providing direct and consultative educational services, duties include conducting educational assessments and preparing written educational evaluations for people ages 23-70. The School Educator will function as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Other duties include monitoring and reporting goal progress, providing maintenance activities for the retention of learned skills, setting up training areas prior to start of each class, obtaining appropriate training materials, mentoring approximately three (3) Educational Developmental Assistants (EDA's), and working collaboratively with Division team members in a residential cottage environment. The School Educator will attend IEP meetings, record data on scheduled sessions, provide lesson plans, and support assigned cottage Director and Educational Services school administrators. The School Educator will participate collaboratively in all meetings to share individual data and skills, complete identified paperwork in a timely manner, demonstrate knowledge of ICF/ID regulations, and assist the treatment team upon request. This position is administratively supervised by the Assistant Director of Educational Services. The position receives direct supervision from the assigned cottage Division Director and the Assistant Director of Educational Services. This is a 12-month position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am ? 5:00 pm (Hours may vary). This position may be assigned to multiple cottages based on need determined by Educational Services Director, however a primary cottage will be assigned.
Salary Grade: ED20 Recruitment Range: $42,000 - $67,200

Murdoch Developmental Center is a 24/7 state residential facility located in Butner, NC, near the Research Triangle area. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified applicants must document on the application that they possess all of the following:
Knowledge of instructional strategies for adults with intellectual disabilities, and behavioral/emotional disabilities.
Knowledge of behavior strategies and intervention techniques.
Knowledge of leisure skills and activities for adult population.
Demonstrated ability to work professionally as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
Proficient writing skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage large and small group instruction.
Effective communication skills.
Management Prefers candidates with the following:
Masters Degree in Special Education and highly qualified (HQ) in Special Education: Severe Profound/Adapted Curriculum.
Experience in teaching adults with intellectual disabilities.
Experience in leisure programming.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree or above in Special Education, Highly Qualified (HQ) as a Special Educator. Current non-expired license or eligible to receive a North Carolina Department of Public Instruction license level of one of the following: A, M, S, D. Should a candidate hold a license in Special Education but has yet to be determined as highly qualified in the specified content area, they will be considered provided they sign their willingness to complete appropriate licensure.
Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
